Urban Noise Pollution and Health
Modern cities are constantly active, with traffic, sirens, and construction contributing to noise pollution. High ambient noise levels disrupt sleep, increase stress, and lower productivity.
Acoustic windows provide a vital barrier, helping homeowners create a peaceful sanctuary. Properly engineered window systems can reduce outdoor noise transmission by up to 45 decibels, creating quiet interiors.
The Mechanics of Acoustic Glazing
Sound waves travel through air and vibrate glass panels, transferring noise indoors. To block sound, we must disrupt these vibrations using varied glass thicknesses and laminated layers.
Acoustic laminated glass uses a thin PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer between two glass panes. This interlayer acts as a dampening core, absorbing sound vibrations and reducing noise transmission across mid and high frequencies.
Seal Integrity and Hardware Role
The finest glass is ineffective if sound leaks through gaps in the window frame. Sound waves travel through any open air path, making tight seals critical.
Coframe systems feature multi-point locking hardware and continuous EPDM compression gaskets. When closed, the window sash is pulled firmly against the frame, compressing the gaskets to block air gaps and keep noise out.
